In honor of Coach Dick Tharp's impact on generations of Ironmen, this outing celebrates his legacy while raising support for NCHS football and scholarships.
2025 Event Recap
We are thrilled to share that the 5th Annual Dick Tharp Memorial Football Golf Outing was a tremendous success! Held on Friday, July 11th, 2025 at El Paso Golf Country Club, the day brought together 17 teams of alumni, supporters, and friends in celebration of Ironmen pride and the lasting legacy of Coach Dick Tharp.
The outing was spearheaded by a crew of former NCHS players deeply shaped by Coach Tharp’s leadership, including Kevin Franz (Class of '87), Mike "Goody" Goodwin ('87), Jerry McBurney ('86), Mike Bozarth ('88), Kirk Brandonburg, and Kenton Frost, Coach Tharp’s grandson.
Highlights of the day included:
- Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive contests
- A silent auction featuring local donors
- A chance to win $10,000 for a hole-in-one on the 9th hole
- A delicious pork chop dinner sponsored by The A-Train
Each year, the outing sponsors a $1,000 scholarship for a graduating Ironmen football player who demonstrates the leadership, character, and scholastic dedication Coach Tharp was known for. The scholarship is paid directly toward the student’s college tuition.

Join us for the annual Football Golf Fundraising Event! We’re proud to team up with The A-Train and Toys For Tots McLean County to raise funds for the Ironmen Football Program.
Funds raised support the NCHS football field, now named “Dick Tharp Field”, and offer a $1,000 scholarship to a senior Ironmen player who exemplifies leadership, commitment, and character.
Help us kick off the 130th season of Ironmen Football at El Paso Country Club. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a first-time golfer, your swing supports our community!
Event Details
- $125 per golfer / $500 per foursome (includes golf cart + 1 FREE drink ticket)
- On-course games, auction, and prizes
- A-TRAIN Porkchop Meal served after golf
